ROSE BAY HOUSE
Patrick Nicholas' own home is a self built modern addition and adaptive re-use of a 1940's Californian Bungalow.
Housing a growing family, the bedrooms are located in the restored part of the existing building. A stair drops into a new two-storey space with full height glazing. A lush tropical garden and cedar venetians filter afternoon sunlight.
The finely detailed steel structure contrasts the heavy masonry of the existing building and the warmth of the timber flooring, deck and blinds.
Features: passive solar design; built in seat and daybed to deck; niches in stairwell; home office; retractable awning to deck; rainwater tank.
